Sam Lightnin' Hopkins originally recorded the 26 tracks that make up Remember Me in April 1954 for the Herald label. It contains over 74 minutes of Hopkins on electric guitar accompanied by bassist Donald Cooks, drummer Ben "Gene" Turner, and a vocal track with Hopkins "protégée" (or girlfriend) Ruth Ames. This combination of Texas boogie and slow blues material has been previously issued with the exception of "Walking and Drinking" and "God Made Man." The songs don't always come across as complete, leaving Lightinin' to improvise a few of them. Thankfully he was the type of bluesman that had the second-nature experience to provide an enjoyable outcome. Generally the sound quality on this disc from the London-based label Ember is typically very good but be prepared for the odd drop out. ~ Al Campbell
