When the ROLLING STONES first recorded the music of Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and a host of other bluesmen from 1963 to 1965, they exposed a host of American musical treasures to an American audience that barely knew of these artists’ existence. Half a century later, the ROLLING STONES are set to repeat that dynamic. December will see the release of the Stones’ “Blue & Lonesome” album, a salute to their blues heroes, recorded over a three day period and capturing the spontaneity of a bunch of friends playing the music they love. And once again, they dig deep into the blues catalogue to uncover songs that have remained relatively unknown, even to many blues enthusiasts. (Mark R.)
