"Ragged But Right" Great String Bands Of The 1930's

The little-known performances on this very interesting CD feature four separate quartets comprised of strings (including violin, banjo, guitar, mandolin and/or bass) and smaller collaborations from the same dates. There are selections from the final recording sessions of Gid Tanner and his Skillet Lickers and numbers from the Prairie Ramblers (a top Western swing group), the pioneer bluegrass group J.E. Mainer's Mountaineers and Ade Mainer's similar Sons of the Mountaineers. While one thinks of the 1930s as the big-band era, clearly there was a great deal of other music being performed at the same time and this CD sampler should greatly interest collectors of early country and Southern roots music.
