Excellent selection of hits and flops from the famous Capitol label. Capitol Records was formed in 1942 in LA and was the first label to be based on the US West Coast. Signing the likes of Nat 'King' Cole, Peggy Lee, Dean Martin and crucially, Frank Sinatra, they hit the ground running. Going on to sign other big names such as Gene Vincent and The Beach Boys means this compilation is full of memorable hits and highlights from half a century ago. (Record Runner)
I bought this budget-priced 3 CD-set primarily to obtain a few very hard-to-find tracks , such as those by Robin Clark and Dwayne Hickman , both of which are excellent. In fact , I really like most of the material on these CDs , including contributions by Nat " King " Cole , Bobby Darin , Tennessee Ernie Ford , Jack Scott , Wanda Jackson , the Kingston Trio , and the Derringers. I had never heard of the Derringers , but their take on the Drifters' song " ( If You Cry ) True Love , True Love " is outstanding. Highly recommended purchase. (Slipped Disc)
