Fine collection of 20 tracks recorded in the early 60s by this excellent New York group including sic acapella performances and track originally issued under the name The Relations. Mostly powerful ballads along with some up-tempo and novelty items. (Roots & Rhythm)Kac-Ties-Greatest-Hits-1.jpgThe early-1960s Brooklyn, New York, doo-wop group the Kac-Ties parlayed a couple of battle-of-the-bands wins into a successful regional recording career. Featuring many of the recordings the group made for the Brooklyn-based Kape label, this collection includes the classic doo-wop rocker “Girl in My Heart” and the ballad “Let Your Love Light Shine,” as well as choice bonus a cappella ‘60s recordings of “What Did I Do Wrong” and “Walking in the Rain” that still retain their fragile beauty decades later.(Allmusic)

Super fun collection of soul, blues, R&B, instro, and rock 'n' roll from the original 45's. (From my record collection.)Do-The-45-28-1.jpgIt's just me having fun with my 45's and whatever random record I pull out of the boxes. I will try to give both sides of the 45 unless one side is unbearable. I hope you enjoy. (Gyro1966)
With this volume, I went back to my same setup as the Garage Greats 45's series. I used the NAD preamp. Not sure if there is a sonic difference, but these 45's sure sounded great blasting out of two huge power amps into two quality sets of speakers on my end.Do-The-45-28-2.jpgtrax:

"Cough Syrup for Elvis Impersonators" 1989

"I promised Cough Syrup a couple of weeks ago, apologies. Thanks for such an awesomely brilliant blog, just something small in return…" - Rich KiddCough-Syrup-1.jpgOne from the Beware crew who, probably very wisely, decided that they'd pushed their luck a little too far with their other comps, and decided to issue this one on a different label.
It's the same mix of weirdness as the Wavy Gravy / Psycho Serenade albums... mad 50s / 60s novelty cash-ins, party rockers and a few musically superior songs to lighten the load.
The Martin Mull track always gets played in my house around xmas - possibly one of the best ever xmas songs in fact.
Andre Williams, Hasil Adkins and Charlie Feathers... three all-time greats who won't be getting paid today. Still - it's always great to hear them. Maybe this type of album would turn people onto their official releases - one can only hope.
The Mickey Lee Lane track is one of the best and wildest records of the era. Simply stunning rhythm n' blues rocker. Well out-there.
Goundhog Richardson - a strip club record. Good fun. As for Dr Cough - it's a spoken-word anti-drugs diatribe. These things are always good for a laugh.
So - in summation. Another dastardly '80s bootleg compiling 50s / 60s novelties in a cheaper-then-cheap jacket with no sleeve notes and no photos of the artists (although you do get a photo of a butt-plug and a cannibal Elvis). The only thing is has going in its favour is - it's absolutely brilliant - BradxCough-Syrup-2.jpgtrax:

I think this is the best set yet from Germany's Looney Tunes. Almost all picks, and some really good writing, as well as well chosen covers. Some of the arranging is creative, and most of the CD sports more than enough interest and charm. - Phil Dirtlooney-tunes-Dune-1.jpgSebastian and pal surf the dunes...
Heck yeah! Here’s the third album from Germany’s Looney Tunes fronted by Sebastian Hartmann. Going back to their first album, they’ve always produced a hard, thick sound with great original riffs and unusual covers like Anatevka from Fiddler On the Roof. I dig the way they experiment with different song structures and moods while keeping the energy of a reverbed surfy sound. Lots of East Euro themes, and then a happy number like Sand Barrier. - www.goofspot.comlooney-tunes-Dune-2.jpgThe Looney Tunes:

Holly Golightly's solo debut is quite a departure from her usual gig as a member of the garage-rocking, Billy Childish-sponsored group Thee Headcoatees…
holly-golightly-goodthings-1.jpg...But for a couple of tracks, Golightly and Thee Headcoatees drummer Bruce Brand create a low-key and introspective musical mood. The overall sound is still raw and live, but the tempos and performances are relaxed. Golightly's voice is very intimate and conversational. She sounds especially good when she harmonizes with herself to create a girl group sound. The songs she wrote are filled with wit and verve and not a little anger. The title track is a classic "you hurt me, you suck" type of song; in fact, most of the songs here are. It is a real broken-hearted breakup record. And Golightly has the good sense to cover a Wreckless Eric song, "Comedy Time." Good Things is a strong debut that definitely points the way to good things to come from Holly Golightly. -  AllMusic Review by Tim Sendra

PREMIERE: The Allergies – You Got Power

Bristol’s own B-Boys and beat makers The Allergies are back and like Mikey Dread they are at the controls of this new Jalapeno compilation called The Allergies Dig Jalapeno. Digging deep into the Jalapeno vaults, they weave together a mix from over 250 official releases from the label’s discography. This upbeat curated mix features Japaleno favorites Dr. Rubberfunk, Kraak and Smaak, Smoove and Turrell, Boca 45, Soopasoul, and many more. The compilation also features two records from the The Allergies, which includes the “Blast Off” remix featuring Andy Cooper, and an unreleased track “You Got Power”. If you are not familiar with The Allergies or Jalapeno for that matter, they have been representing the funkier side of town for quite some time. The Allergies, along with their tight crew of Bristol, UK artists and beat makers, DJs and B-Boys have kept dance floors steady moving in towns all over the world. They definitely embody the spirit of hip hop, and The Allergies Dig Jalapeno is a party you definitely want to attend. Even if you listened to these cats for the first time, you number one, will not be able to stand still, and number two, will recognize how much hip hop plays a part in their every day lives. They make people move, and for that matter, so does Jalapeno. “You Got Power”, an unheard track from The Allergies featured is an explosive, piano driven, heavy B-Boy drum break, powerhouse of a track that will induce everything from uprocking to windmills and head spins, along with the usual booty shaking the lads are known for. They have a timeless sound, not only in this track, but coupled with the Jalapeno curated tracks, a mix that could have been released in the ’80’s. Upbeat is an understatement. So much energy from the 42 minutes plus, you might be able to power your house with its energy for a few days. Imagine Alan Walsh doing his Walshy Shuffle to these tracks, we can. Perfectly curated and mixed, this one is a winner. Check out the track below, and go to the link to purchase the digital version of the compilation or sample the stream of other sides as well.
