"Herman's Hermits' Record Collection"
One thing that separated HERMAN’S HERMITS from many other British Invasion groups was their lack of a songwriter…![Hermans-Hermits-Record-Collection-1.jpg]()
...Most of their Beat Group brethren (the Beatles, the Stones, the Hollies, the Animals) started out performing and recording covers of American hits (from the likes of Chuck Berry, Chicago blues artists, the Girl Groups, etc.) before teams of songwriters began to emerge from within their ranks. But the same cannot be said for Peter Noone’s gang. This made them ever reliant on the songs of others. Like many, they mined the American R’n’R songbook but then they took a more decided English turn, calling on some British writers as well as older English music hall songs in an attempt to play up their Manchester identity for a growing American audience. Towards the end of their successful run, they tapped into songwriters who would write songs expressly for them (Graham Gouldman, P.F. Sloan) but the records they chose to re-make give us some idea about what their own musical sensibility might have been like. HERMAN’S HERMITS Record Collection focuses on their catalog of singles.
